The latest season of Destiny 2, Season of the Wish, began its near-seven month story at the end of November, and now it’s looking like that story is coming to an almost-end less than two months later.

Season of the Wish

The final season of Destiny 2 saw players reclaim the lost eggs of the previously-assumed dead-and-gone Ahamkara, Riven. According to Riven, if we were to reclaim all of her lost eggs, she would grant us one last wish. The last wish — the 15th wish.

The 15th wish was thought to be non-existent after years of players searching for it to no avail, but it turns out it does exist. And we’re going to use it to force our way into the Witness’ portal that was created at the end of Lightfall.

Since the last attempt to enter the Witness’ portal ended in…well, in pieces, it’s safe to assume there’s no other way to enter the portal without the help of Riven and the last wish.

Not many characters are happy about the situation, but it’s pretty desperate times, so there’s not much anyone can do but trust Riven — without actually trusting her, of course.

Egg collecting

We’ve spent the last couple of months, give or take, hopping in and going on an Easter egg hunt for Riven every week. Now, it looks like we’re done with that for a while — which is good. But that also means we’ve got…basically nothing until June.

The downside of having a season like this coincide with the launch of an expansion is that when said expansion gets delayed…it kind of screws up the pacing of the entire season, and holds the game in limbo for a few months.

Good news, though — Bungie has said that there will be a new weekly progression-based quest coming in February called “Wishes,” so at least there’s something else coming a bit sooner.

Season of the Delay

The last time a delay caused a mega-Season was way back with the delay of Beyond Light where we got a five-month Season of Arrivals (I managed to hit season rank 500 way back when).

As much as it sucks, unfortunately there really just isn’t another card for Bungie to play. There’s not enough time to develop another season — even a mini-season — and even if there was enough time, there’s certainly not enough resources to devote to an entirely new in-between season as that would cause an even longer delay for The Final Shape.

So, it looks like we’re just going to have to wait it out and see how the next few months play out for Destiny 2. Given the recent seasonal activities like Savathun’s Spire and Altars of Summoning, I’m optimistic about what “Wishes” might have to offer, but I’m not expecting anything insanely innovative — just enough to hold us offer until June. Hopefully.
