The end of the Best Buy era is upon us as it looks like the tech giant is making good on their promise to stop selling movies and TV shows in a physical format by pulling the rest of their stock off their shelves.

Best Bye

Best Buy has been the go-to store for a lot of consumers and their physical media needs — whether it be DVDs, CDs, Blu-Rays, or even the famed Best Buy-exclusive steelbooks that many, including myself, looked forward to for new releases.

Unfortunately for many, Best Buy has begun discontinuing the sale of certain physical media now that the new year has begun. Last year, Best Buy sent an email to customers detailing their plans for the coming months.

“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago,” Best Buy said in a statement. “Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy.”

While many customers don’t seem to be taking kindly to the change, it looks like Best Buy really isn’t backing down on their decision to stop selling physical movies and TV.

We’ve reached out to Best Buy for further comment, but so far have yet to get a response.
