Godzilla: Minus One is now the official holder of the “highest grossing Toho-produced Godzilla movie ever” title.

Godzilla: Minus One has officially passed $78,000,000 at the worldwide box office, making it the highest grossing Toho-produced Godzilla film of all time. Until now, 2016’s Shin Godzilla held the record at $77, 947,607.

What makes this an even bigger accomplishment for the film is that it began as a limited release in the US, but the unexpected success of the film paved its way to a wide release in the states and several theatrical run extensions.

It’s looking like Godzilla: Minus One will tear its way to $80 million, as the film’s previously limited theatrical run has been extended until at least the end of December and into early January.

Could it potentially hit $100 million? Only Godzilla knows.
