The team behind Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons prides itself on its original and creative artwork…or so they say.
Where’s the Magic?
Just a few months ago, Wizards of the Coast — the team behind games like Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, were in some hot water with the community as they had been caught using AI art for the cover of one of their new source books, “Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants.”
Wizards of the Coast released the below statement following that controversy:

Unfortunately, it looks like Wizards is back at it again with more AI-created art, this time for Magic: The Gathering.
In a now-deleted tweet, the official Magic account tweeted a marketing image that many were quick to point out featured several clear and obvious features that pointed to the image being made from AI.
Now, we’ve got another statement from the Magic twitter account.
“While the art came from a vendor, it’s on us to make sure that we are living up to our promise to support the amazing human ingenuity that makes Magic great,” the statement reads. “It looks like some AI components that are now popping up in industry standard tools like Photoshop crept into our marketing creative, even if a human did the work to create the overall image.”
Wizards of the Coast says they are reevaluating how they work with vendors moving forward, but it’s unclear how exactly they’re going to do that.
We’ve reached out to the PR team at Hasbro for comment and will keep you updated on their official response.
