We finally know what exactly the remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2 is going to offer players, so let’s dive into what was revealed in the latest trailer!
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
Game Director for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Matthew Gallant, went over the features included in the upcoming remaster of the sequel to PlayStation’s most beloved game. There’s some pretty interesting inclusions in it, so let’s get into it!
Lost Levels
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered includes the lost levels, which feature moments from the game that were initially cut but have returned in their raw, unfinished state with developer commentary.
“We pull back the curtain on the game-making process, presenting them in their raw and unfinished state,” Gallant said. “These levels feature a developer commentary that tell the story of their creation…and why they were ultimately cut.”
For folks that want to dive even further behind the scenes, hours of new cinematic commentary have been recorded, according to Gallant, featuring the main cast and more.
Guitar mode
Fans of the guitar minigame in The Last of Us Part 2 will be thrilled to see it expanded with an entirely new system that allows players to choose their character (Ellie, Joel, and even the game’s composer Gustavo Santaolalla!), location, and instrument. Gallant adds that they recorded some new instruments for players to choose from as well, including a banjo!
DualSense support
Naughty Dog has implemented support for the DualSense controller by making use of its adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, so players will be able to feel the tension in the bow as you pull back an arrow, the kickback of a shotgun, and more, Gallant said.
Accessibility
Gallant adds that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered also includes new accessibility options like audio descriptions for cinematics and speech-to-vibrations.
No Return
Probably the biggest feature of them all is No Return. A brand new single-player roguelike survival mode. Players can choose from 10 characters to play including many that were not previously playable (like Jesse and Lev, to name a few). Each character has a unique playstyle, traits, and starting inventory, according to Gallant.
No Return features randomized encounters with remixed levels, enemy factions, game modes, and random gameplay mods. It also features permadeath, so if you die — that’s it. However, you’re free to pick it up again and start from scratch.
Other additions
Along with everything else that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered includes, there are also new character skins, weapon skins, photo mode improvements, and a new speedrun mode for those of you that want to blow through the game as quickly as possible.
And that’s it for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered! What are your thoughts? Will you be picking up the remaster when it comes out on January 19? Let us know and check out the trailer here!
