I recently got a chance to check out the latest rice cooker from Toshiba, and I think I’ve made more rice than ever because of it.

Toshiba sent out a review sample of the rice cooker, but this review is not sponsored.

I’ll keep this short and sweet because I really have nothing but good things to say about the Toshiba rice cooker.

It comes with several cooking modes including quick cook (30 minutes), white rice, brown rice, mixed grain, slow cook, porridge, cake, and egg.

Now, I’ve really only tested the quick cook and white rice options as those are the two that I would find myself using on an everyday basis, though I am incredibly curious about the slow cook and cake options as well, so I’ll probably come back and add those options to this review once I’ve used them a few times.

Fuzzy Logic

The main selling point for this rice cooker, and one that I had completely missed when browsing through the media kit is something they call “Fuzzy Logic.” What this means is the rice cooker can sense the moisture content of the rice and adjust cooking temperature and time as needed to ensure perfectly cooked rice every time.

For this feature alone, I would say the rice cooker is worth checking out. I made a few batches of rice and didn’t really measure the water, I just kind of eyeballed it; at first I thought I was just really good at guessing the amount of water to use (which might still be true), because the rice was coming out perfect every time. Then I went back and read about the “Fuzzy Logic” feature and everything made sense.

Nonstick Pot

The other huge advantage this has over other rice cookers that I’ve used in the past is its nonstick cooking pot. This thing is so incredibly easy to wash out and clean, and it fits so much rice (almost too much, there’s just no way I could ever fill it all the way). It isn’t recommended to put the pot in the dishwasher (oops, may have done that a few times before reading that), but honestly it’s so easy to clean that it’s totally a non-issue.

Overall

If you’re looking for a high-quality rice cooker and you have a bit of cash to spare ($90 to be precise), I would absolutely recommend the Toshiba Mini Rice Cooker. It’s portable, it’s powerful, it’s precise. What more can I say?

The only incredibly minor issue I have is the lack of a locking mechanism for the button to open the rice cooker. While I can’t really see it being a problem for a lot of people, there is the potential for somebody to accidentally open up the cooker by bumping it or if a child happens to get close to it. The button is pretty sensitive and easy to press, so a small latch or something to make sure it stays closed while cooking might be something to consider.
