Did you know that Razer collaborated with Minecraft for a few unique gaming peripherals? Yep, they sure did — and Razer was kind enough to send over some samples for me to share my thoughts!

Minecraft x Razer gear

So what exactly has Razer included in the Minecraft collaboration set? Good question, reader! There’s some sweet loot for the Minecraft-loving buyer to choose from, including:

  • Blackwidow V4 X keyboard
  • Kraken V4 X headset
  • Cobra mouse
  • Gigantus V2 M mouse pad

There’s quite a lot to unpack here (literally!), so let’s get right into each piece of the Minecraft x Razer collab set!

Minecraft Blackwidow V4 X

The Minecraft edition Blackwidow V4 X is a full-sized RGB mechanical keyboard equipped with Razer’s Green switches.

Razer’s Green switches provide a tactile and clicky actuation for those that enjoy more feedback on each key press. I’m typically used to using linear switches (Cherry MX Red), but it didn’t take me any time at all to get re-accustomed to the feel of these Green switches.

I’ve been using the Glorious GMMK 2 keyboard as my daily driver for longer than I can remember and it’s been fantastic. However, the inclusion of the dedicated volume wheel and six dedicated macro buttons on the Blackwidow V4 Max might get me to make the switch (pun absolutely intended) back to Razer.

It’s taking some time for me to get used to another full-sized keyboard, but I’m really liking this one. Plus, the Minecraft grass texture on the shell is really actually pretty cool.

One huge bummer for me is the fact that the cable isn’t detachable. I really don’t understand the reasoning behind this, it’s one of the biggest reasons I love the GMMK 2. With that keyboard, I can use whatever USB-C cable I have laying around (provided it fits in the cutout). It makes packing the keyboard away much easier if you need to travel, and if the cable fails or gets damaged you can just swap it out with another. So yeah, not exactly my favorite thing but it’s also not a deal-breaker.

Another potential downside is the lack of USB passthrough. Personally, I don’t usually care about having passthrough on my keyboards, but that might not be the case for you — so keep that in mind when you’re considering this keyboard.

For $170, I’d say the Razer Blackwidow V4 X Minecraft Edition offers a lot. However, the same keyboard without the Minecraft branding costs $40 less — the exact same keyboard. So unless you’re a die-hard Minecraft fan (no shame in that), personally I would just recommend getting the black version.

Minecraft Razer Cobra

The Razer Cobra is a wired RGB optical mouse with a lightweight 58g design. It’s equipped with an 8500 DPI optical sensor and rated for 90-million clicks.

First impressions on this mouse are really odd. Initially, I did not think I’d like this mouse at all. Taking it out of the box, I could immediately feel that it was too small for my huge hands, but I was determined to give it a fair shot. And I’m glad I did, because while it is still a tad too small it feels much better than I expected it to feel in my hands.

I also despised the mouse buttons for the first 10-15 minutes I used it. They felt hollow and brittle, not at all what I want in a gaming mouse. I think it just needed some breaking in, because it feels totally normal now and I’m actually quite enjoying the Razer Cobra.

It’s still not quite right for my hand shape and default mouse grip, but I can absolutely see the Cobra sticking around in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

The Minecraft edition of the Razer Cobra will run you $60 with the black version again being cheaper than the Minecraft edition at $40. But honestly, I’m fine with both prices. A $20 difference in price is a lot easier to stomach than $40 for the Blackwidow V4 X — and let’s be honest…if you’re reading this you’re probably specifically wanting the Minecraft version of these peripherals, so yeah I actually feel pretty good recommending the Razer Cobra Minecraft edition!

Minecraft Gigantus V2

There’s not a whole heck of a lot I can say about the Razer Gigantus V2 — it’s a mouse pad. It’s a nice mouse pad, but it’s still just a mouse pad. It has a cloth surface and a nice natural rubber base which allows the mouse to move smoothly across.

I had a really tough time finding any other information about the Minecraft edition of the Gigantus V2 specifically, as it doesn’t even show up on the official Razer website. So I’m basing this on the price at Best Buy (sold out, though), which is $30.

Which is….a lot. Considering the black version of the Gigantus V2 is $10, making the Minecraft edition a whopping three times as much — I’d recommend just getting the normal one. $30 for a mouse pad you can get for $10 is crazy.

Minecraft Kraken V4 X

Saving the best for last, I was genuinely blown away by the Kraken V4 X headset. Traditionally, I have not been a fan of Razer headsets that I’ve used in the past. They’ve never felt right, the mics were bad, and they just didn’t sound as good as other cheaper options.

However, the Kraken V4 X is, dare I say, one of the best headsets I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. There’s a couple different things I’d like to go over, so let’s start with the mic.

The microphone isn’t anything mind-blowing, but it honestly is pretty solid and a huge step up from previous Razer headset microphones. It’s a little quiet with no real way to adjust the volume output level on the headset itself but it is by no means a bad microphone.

Comfort-wise, the Kraken V4 X feels great — a drastic improvement to previous Razer headsets I’ve used in the past. This one feels more akin to a SteelSeries headset and that’s a huge win in my book as I absolutely love SteelSeries headsets.

In terms of sound, these are actually really good — I’ve been using the HyperX Cloud Alpha headphones forever and while I adored those I have to admit they don’t hold a candle to how the Kraken V4 X sounds. They feel way punchier and sound just hits so much harder with the Razer headset.

The biggest downside, in my opinion, is the cable. I have no problems with wired headsets at all, but I have the same problem with the Kraken as I did with the Blackwidow V4 X — the cable isn’t detachable. And I actually think it’s a bigger problem on the Kraken than it is on the Blackwidow as you’re probably more prone to having a cable issue with a pair of headphones than you are a keyboard. The cable just gets moved around and abused a lot more on headphones than it would on a keyboard. Again, not exactly a dealbreaker, but man I really do wish this would’ve just been a replaceable cable. (It’s also not braided, which isn’t the biggest deal, but in a world where most companies are offering braided cables by default it just would’ve been nice.)

The Razer Kraken V4 X Minecraft edition comes in at $99 (regular black edition is $79), and honestly I have to say I think this is one of the best headset deals on the market now, and it’s not even close. If you had asked me a few years ago if I thought any Razer headset, let alone one under $100, would be worth buying I’d probably have suggested another brand — but Razer seems to have really leveled up their headset game and the Kraken V4 X is something that I feel more than happy to give my stamp of approval and say yes, if you’re in the market for a new headset, you should absolutely consider the Kraken V4 X!
